"Three Feathers" Art Coat
Muscogee (Creek), Santa Fe, New Mexico
Shelley Patrick is a visionary young artist from Oklahoma who is studying art at the renowned Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe. She combines traditional iconography from her Muscogee heritage with modern imagery and stylistic traditions for a fresh new look.
Here she paints the outline of a dangling feather on the front left next to a vertical row of joined wing and eye motifs on the right. Both are rendered in exquisite fine line detail in gold, turquoise, white yellow and pink. On the back side are three oversized dangling white feather motifs, crossed with the same joined wing and eye pattern, this time in a horizontal stripe, accentuated and outlined in gold spattered paint. It is a striking piece that carries tradition and modernity equally.
Imagine yourself wearing "Three Feathers" over a gold shell top and pant, or all white, for a stunning contemporary look to your next special event and watch the heads turn as you go by!
